BUCHER-LOEWENSTEIN INTERNS 2024

Bucher-Loewenstein Interns 2024 mount Cetamura Exhibition at the Owen Gallery in the FSU Study Center, Florence

On June 3, 2024, Allison Boroff and Sarah Moloney opened their own show on Cetamura, called “Living off the Land: Etruscans at Cetamura del Chianti,” at the FSU Study Center in Florence  (See also https://www.cetamuradelchianti.com/2024-interns/).  The recipients of the Bucher-Loewenstein Internships (an award now in its third year) are both students in Art History and both also worked in May and June at the excavations at Cetamura.

The event came with a surprising and rather dramatic twist, because a fire alarm went off in the Study Center 1 hour before the scheduled opening, and all of the Cetamura crew had to evacuate the place. While waiting near the Arno River to get back in the building, the group came to rest in front of the Galileo Museum and, after the purchase of entrance tickets for everyone, ended up with permission to settle in the museum auditorium. There Allie and Sarah gave their opening talk for the exhibition!

Soon the Study Center opened back up, and the crew proceeded to the gallery for the ribbon cutting. FSU Study Center Director Dr. Charles Panarella assisted with cutting the archaeological flagging tape, and all were able to enjoy the show and refreshments in the Study Center café.
